Road Riders for Jesus
Chapter 31, Hopkinsville KY
From Our Chaplain

Words from our Chaplain

Hello Brothers & Sisters

My name is Donald but you can call me Olivet, I am the new Chaplin for RRJ31.

I hope to update this page as time goes by and when I get new ideas the Lord wants me to share with you! So here goes……..

As the riding season gets underway it makes me think of the types of riders out there.

First we have the novice rider.

•  They are new to the sport and new to bikes

•  Mostly ride on weekends in great weather

•  Bought their Bike because their friends have one or they have always wanted one.

•  They want to get into the lifestyle (Biker)

•  They watch and listen to the next group for riding tips and cool places to ride

Next we have the frequent rider

•  These Riders have been riding awhile and are comfortable with their bike

•  These riders use their bikes to ride to work, to dinner, with friends and to various events

•  They are the 50/50 riders (above 50 degrees and less than 50% chance of rain)

•  And for the most part look at the next group and shake their heads as if to say “ not to sure about those people”

And finally we have the hardcore riders

•  These riders are looked at by the last two groups in bewilderment and sometimes awe

•  They are the ones that will ride in almost any weather Hot, Cold, Wet, Windy

•  They will ride hundreds of miles just to say they did

•  And they look at the other two groups as not being committed to the sport

•  They live by the motto live to ride, ride to live

Then I thought how this reminds me of the people that make up a Church.

We have the new (Novice) members

•  They start by coming to the main service on Sunday

( But only when they don’t have another thing going on )

•  They come to church because a friend asks them to

They have wanted to know more about this Christian Thing

•  After awhile they want to be like the next group

The regular (frequent) Members

•  These Members are comfortable with where they are on their walk with the Lord

•  They come to their fair share of church functions

•  They sometimes talk about God when they are out with friends at dinner, work, events and they look at the next group with bewilderment and sometimes awe

The Hardcore (Jesus freak) Members

•  These Members are there in any weather (when the doors are open)

•  They don’t mind traveling to share the word (Missions) and will tell you about it

•  They look at the other two groups and just don’t get why they are not working harder for the Lord

•  They live the motto, walk the walk and talk the talk

With the above parallel I have tried to show that we all belong to the same overall group.

4 For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. 6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; 7 or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; 8 he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

Romans 12:4-8

Wherever you fit in the above group, work to share the lord with all people.

We are commanded to go out and spread the word

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. (Matthew 28:18-20)

Well  this begins a new path on my walk with the Lord and I am excited to share the journey with you .

If I can ever be of help to you please call

Keep the Shiny side up

Ride safe and with our Lord

Yours in Christ,

Olivet

15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst.

16 But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life.

1 Timothy 1:15-16
